Subject: 20247/UniformAllowance/PublicWorks Date: Thu, 16 Sep 1993 12:29:10 -0500 RESOLUTION NO. 20247 A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A REVISED POLICY FOR A SUPPLEMENTAL UNIFORM ALLOWANCE FOR ELIGIBLE EMPLOYEES IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, That there be and is hereby established a revised policy for a supplemental uniform allowance for eligible employees in the Department of Public Works as follows: POLICY FOR SUPPLEMENTAL UNIFORM ALLOWANCE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS (Revised May 31, 1994) 1. A supplemental uniform allowance shall be paid to eligible employees in the Department of Public Works in the amount of $200.00 to be paid on an annual basis during the first pay period in July of each year. 2. Eligible employees hired during a fiscal year shall receive a prorated distribution of the supplemental uniform allowance based upon the number of months left during the fiscal year at the time of employment. 3. The term "eligible employees" as used in this policy shall include those employees occupying the employment positions on a list designated by the Administrator of the Department of Public Works. 4. Uniforms for which the supplemental uniform allowance shall be used shall consist of shirts, pants, coveralls, rainsuits, steel-toe shoes and leather gloves in styles and colors authorized by the Administrator of the Department of Public Works or his authorized representative. 0C 5. There shall be no allowance for repair or replacement of any part of the prescribed uniform during the fiscal year, but eligible employees receiving the supplemental uniform allowance shall not be relieved of any duty to wear the prescribed uniform by virtue of loss of, damage to or destruction of any item of the uniform. 6. All eligible employees receiving the supplemental uniform allowance shall report to work and perform their work in attire meeting the criteria specified by the Administrator of the Department of Public Works or his duly authorized representative. Any employee who reports for work in attire not meeting said criteria on any two occasions within one year shall receive a written warning; any employee who reports for work in attire not meeting said criteria on three or more occasions within one year may be suspended without pay for a minimum of one day until he or she reports to work in the prescribed uniform. 7. The supplemental uniform allowance may not be used by eligible employees for any purchases or use other than the purchase of prescribed items of the uniform. ADOPTED: May 31, 1994 MAM:cjc
